River Song and The Library -
I have a theory on this, and I don’t just think it’s wishful thinking. My theory is that River does go beyond the Library, that she survives and not just in virtual reality, but that she really survives. I know many River fans feel that the Library shouldn’t be messed with, that the whole idea of her sacrifice and the the whole upside-down relationship between the Doctor and her would be undermined if River was somehow rescued, but I have to disagree. I think TWORS changed all of that. Why? Because if we look at River as the Doctor’s opposite equal, then it makes sense if River is there to help the Doctor cheat death, then he would be there to help her cheat hers. We’ll have to see what happens, but the groundwork is there in the narrative. Can River be saved without re-writing time? Absolutely. And you don’t think the Doctor wouldn’t try? When he says ‘spoilers’ to himself - partly that’s a bit of gallows humour, but could it be that he’s got a plan up his sleeve?
